Project Overview

The property, located at Church Court, Bristol, BS40, had been using electric storage heaters for over 20 years. The homeowner specifically wanted to maintain this type of heating system rather than switching to gas or installing a wet heating system with extensive pipework. The existing heaters had lost efficiency, with the homeowner describing the property as "like an ice box" during winter months.

Client & Funding

This project was commissioned by Bristol City Council and funded through the HUGS 1 programme, which aims to improve energy

efficiency in private homes meeting specific criteria.

The installation was a straightforward replacement of heaters in their original locations, with additional work to update the

consumer unit to comply with new regulations.

Challenges

While there were no significant technical challenges, the project required special consideration for the elderly resident. The team prioritised clear communication and careful planning to ensure minimal disruption to the homeowner's daily routine.

Solution and Photographic Evidence

Removal of Old Heaters

The electrical supply was shut off and the existing storage heaters were removed. As the new units were smaller than the

originals, redecoration work was required around each installation point to

match the existing colour scheme.

Installation Process

New trunking was installed around the old cables to improve presentation. HHR StorageHeaters were installed

throughout the house,  with a new heated towel rail in the bathroom as

requested by the homeowner.

Completion and Support

The project was completed in three days. The team provided thorough instructions on using the new controls and left all

documentation and. warranty information. Additional follow-up visits

were made to help the. resident with programming. the system.

Conclusion

This installation project was completed successfully with particular attention to the needs of the elderly resident. The team's considerate planning and regular communication made the homeowner feel involved throughout the process. All waste materials, including the old storage heaters, were properly disposed of at the local recycling centre.
